Distinctives are doctrines, cultural or moral issues, and religious elements we believe need further clarity and explanation beyond our Statement of Faith and Church Covenant. Distinctives are developed over time as we listen and consider the need for further statements on given topics. Our distinctives can be downloaded at the following link, or read below:

Our Approach

Grace Fellowship will avoid hasty responses and will never merely “adopt” other statements of distinction simply to have a position. However, other churches and ministries often have resources, history (experience), and expertise beyond our own. Upon careful consideration and prayer, Grace Fellowship Baptist Church may adopt the statements of these organizations and churches as our own.

Labels of Distinction

Recognizing that our Statement of Faith (our doctrinal statement) along with our Constitution and By-Laws are lengthy documents demanding time and reflection, we have assembled what many in our culture are diligently avoiding: labels. These labels serve as a summary for our membership to aid in explanation of who Grace Fellowship Baptist Church is and is not.

The Bible is Our Authority

We are a Biblical congregation, therefore we derive our identity, actions and attitudes about God and humanity, along with the authority for them, from Scripture or the sixty-six books of the Bible.

The Gospel is Our Message

We are an Evangelical congregation, therefore our gathering and purpose is predicated upon the truth and implications of the gospel as presented through God’s sovereign work of redemption revealed in Scripture and demonstrated through the universal church.

The Historical Beliefs and Practices of Baptists Are Our Identity

We are generally a Baptist congregation, specifically Southern Baptist, therefore we adhere to the primary historical theology and practice of Baptist congregations and the observances of the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

The Protestant Reformation is the Genesis of Our Affirmations and Denials

We are a Protestant congregation, therefore we recognize the historic schism formally pronounced by the officials and adherents of the Roman Catholic church and we affirm the five formal pillars of the reformation: Scripture alone, Christ alone, grace alone, faith alone, and all to the glory of God alone.

The Doctrines of Grace or Reformed Theology are the Guiding Tenants of Our Systematic and Biblical Theology

We are a Calvinistic congregation, therefore we begin all formal and informal considerations of God with the acknowledgement that God alone is sovereign in character and in all His activities.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ

We believe the most important statement a church can make is its belief and proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In a culture where we often reach for the least common denominator for the sake of unity, clear and biblical teaching of the Gospel itself has become a casualty in many churches.

Grace Fellowship has adopted as its first distinctive, the Together for the Gospel statement of affirmation and denials relating to the chief tenant of our faith, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This statement can be read in the download document above.

Expository Preaching

We believe God’s Word is powerful (Hebrews 4:12) and does a mighty work when handled in a proper and revered manner as we are commanded (2 Timothy 2:15 and 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5). We believe that the Word of God is the foundation for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3-4) and sufficient to accomplish everything God ordains by its proclamation (Isaiah 55:11). We believe that the heart of missions and evangelism is rooted in proclaiming God’s Word above all else (Romans 10:13-15). Further justification for expository preaching can be read in the download document above.
